Message from the Superintendent

Dear Mt. Pleasant Community,

Welcome to the Mount Pleasant Elementary School District.

It is an honor to serve as Superintendent of a district that has been my professional home for 27 years. My journey with MPESD began as a two-way dual immersion kindergarten teacher, and over the years I have had the privilege of serving in a variety of leadership roles. For the past six years, I have proudly served as Superintendent. These experiences have given me a deep appreciation for our students, families, staff, and the vibrant community that makes MPESD such a special place.

My commitment to education is grounded in a simple but powerful belief: every student can thrive. When we believe in our students' potential, provide the support and opportunities they need, and help them develop confidence in themselves, remarkable things happen. Students often exceed our expectations. They become learners who can, will, and want to achieve their goals—not because someone is doing it for them, but because they have developed the skills, confidence, and determination to do it for themselves.

At MPESD, we are proud to offer innovative programs and services that support students at every stage of their educational journey—from preschool services for three-year-olds through eighth grade. Our specialized programs, including dual-language learning, STEAM opportunities, arts education, wellness initiatives, and expanded student supports, reflect our commitment to meeting the diverse needs of our learners and preparing them for a bright future.

Our district is guided by a vision of belonging, equity, innovation, and excellence. We strive to create welcoming learning environments where every student is known, valued, challenged, and supported. We celebrate the rich cultural and linguistic diversity of our community and view it as one of our greatest strengths.

As we look to the future, we remain committed to ensuring that every student develops the knowledge, skills, confidence, and character needed to thrive in an ever-changing world. Through strong partnerships with families, dedicated educators, and community members, we continue to build schools where students are empowered to learn, lead, and succeed.

Thank you for your trust and partnership in the important work of educating our children. Together, we are creating opportunities, nurturing potential, and shaping a future where every student can flourish.

Warmly,

Dr. Elida MacArthur
