August Boeger Middle School
Empowering Students for High School and Beyond
August Boeger Middle School (AB) was initially opened for 7th and 8th graders in 1964. Nowadays, AB has an AVID program and is a Community School for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, offering classes like leadership and project-based learning. Dual enrollment is done in partnership with Evergreen Valley College, which gives middle schoolers a chance to experience college classes while earning college credit. The AB Wellness Center provides additional support for students during school hours.
AB students are consistently recognized by the California Department of Education for their civic engagement, and the YMCA has deemed them an Asset Champion for a Caring School Climate. In 2026, AB was a Glenn W. Hoffman Award Winner, and was also deemed a School to Watch both on a state level and a national level.
AB's namesake, August Boeger, was a Board Trustee from 1915 to 1936. Most of his life was spent within the Mt. Pleasant area, and his descendants have become alumni of this school.
Its mascot is a bobcat.

Ida Jew Academy & Valle Vista Elementary School
Together, we believe in every child, cultivate belonging, and grow in community.
Ida Jew Academy & Valle Vista Elementary School (IJAVVE) is a shared campus for elementary and middle school for grades TK to 8. IJAVVE is a Science Technology Engineering Arts Mathematics (STEAM) school, featuring an award-winning robotics team. Students have been recognized for their civic engagement by the California Courts. The YMCA has called IJAVVE an Asset Champion for a Positive School Climate, and it has also been a Best U.S. News & World Report Middle School.
The Valle Vista Elementary side opened in January 1970 as an open pod school. It used to be located at 2400 Flint Avenue, was a Magnet School for East Side Union High School District and a Distinguished California School, and won a Golden Bell Award in 2001 for its Best Start Literacy Program.
Later, Ida Jew Academies was established in 2003, named after MPESD's then-recently retired superintendent. It is split in two, with the STEAM side at this campus and the ALAS (Spanish Dual Immersion) side at the Mt. Pleasant campus.
The Ida Jew Academy mascot is a puma, and the Valle Vista Elementary mascot is a Viking.

Robert Sanders Elementary School
AVID - Advancement Via Individual Determination
Robert Sanders Elementary (RS) opened in 1961. It is currently an AVID and Community School for grades TK to 5. RS students get to participate in leadership, drama, and more, all while cultivating critical skills for their education. They are recognized by local organizations for contributions to the community, such as the BeautifySJ by the City of San Jose.
This school was named after Robert J. Sanders, one of Fred Marten Elementary's principals, who contributed heavily to education and the community before his early passing.
Its mascot is a cougar.

Mt. Pleasant/Ida Jew ALAS
Together in Connection, Collaboration, and Community
Mt. Pleasant/Ida Jew ALAS (MPIJA) is a shared campus and Community School for grades TK to 5. MPIJA also has the Marlatt Center for preschoolers. Students are able to engage with STEAM curriculum through LEGO Education. Those enrolled in Ida Jew ALAS are a part of the Spanish Dual Immersion classes, which is supported by MACLA, Los Dichos, folklórico, and mariachi programs.
Originally, Mt. Pleasant was the titular and only school, founded in 1865 within the Pala Rancho. It transitioned from being a portable one-room school on rollers to what is now known as San Jose Moose Lodge 401, from 1915 to 1955. Afterward, Mt. Pleasant became situated in its current-day location.
Ida Jew ALAS is the Spanish Dual Immersion side of Ida Jew Academies.
Mt. Pleasant's icon is an eagle.
