The Importance of Early Learning

MPESD has been operating preschool programs for over twenty years. Our preschool teachers are qualified, experienced, and regularly engage in professional development. They are supported by bilingual staff. Together, they work with parents to assess student needs, communicating individual progress throughout the school year. We believe in nurturing each child's strengths in a positive and developmentally appropriate environment, that social skills and self-regulation are essential for kindergarten, and that children learn best from play.

Our focus is on self-help, pre-academic readiness, motor skills, and communication skills in an environment that celebrates fun and learning.

Program Highlights

  • Developmentally appropriate programming consistent with best practices
  • Adult to Child ratio of 1:8. For example, a class of 16 will have 2 adults.
  • Uses the California Preschool Learning Foundations
  • Strong emphasis on inclusive classrooms
  • Operating consistent with California State Preschools

California Preschool Curriculum Framework

We utilize the Eight Overarching Principles to build the curriculum for our students, as seen in the California Department of Education's Preschool Curriculum Framework: Volume 1.

  1. Relationships are central.
  2. Play is a primary context for learning.
  3. Learning is integrated.
  4. Intentional teaching enhances children's learning experiences.
  5. Family and community partnerships create meaningful connections.
  6. Individualization of learning includes all children.
  7. Responsiveness to culture and language supports children's learning.
  8. Time for reflection and planning enhances teaching.

How Every Child Can Thrive By Five

This TED talk, hosted by Molly Wright, tells us how parents and caregivers can support children's healthy brain development through research-backed methods. Multiple languages are available for subtitles.
