Mr. Ernest Sandoval

Mr. Sandoval is in his 15th year of teaching at Ida Jew Academy. He attended UC Davis where he majored in Human Development and Psychology. He also received a minor in Education. Upon graduating, he worked at the Berkeley YMCA Head Start program as a family Advocate providing low-income families with a variety of resources. He entered the Developmental Teacher Education Program at the UC Berkeley, receiving his Masters and Multiple Subject Credential with a focus in the arts and social justice. He began teaching at Ida Jew Academy in 2010 as a 2nd-grade bilingual teacher. In his 15th year of teaching, Mr. Sandoval has taught 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. While his current focus is 7th grade History and Math, he has taught across all subject matters.

Mr. Sandoval has been very involved in the school community, having served in the Leadership Council for 6 years, School Site Council as secretary, AVID, BEST team, Curriculum Council, and as the Student Council Advisor. He has also coached basketball, softball, and soccer at IJA. He is currently the Boys soccer JV coach at Mount Pleasant High School.

Originally residing from Los Angeles, Mr. Sandoval is a devoted LA sports fan and enjoys bickering with his students regarding the rivalries. Outside of school he enjoys playing sports, gardening, reading, and spending time with his family, especially his three baby boys Neni (2 yrs), Kiko (6 yrs), and Teo (8 yrs).

Mr. Sandoval is a strong believer in loving what you do, and he loves teaching. He is delighted to start this new school year with a new group of students and looks forward to helping them achieve their academic goals.
