MPESD 3 to 3 Initiative
MPESD 3 to 3 Initiative
Our goal is by the end of third grade, all students will read at grade level. Resources will align with an "all in" approach to addressing early literacy. Students who enter the fourth grade at or above level are best prepared for future success. All students reading competently by fourth grade will change the trajectory of many students.
Early Literacy
MPESD will address Early Literacy by addressing these 4 areas:
Instructional Practices
Professional Learning
Early Identification Tools
Key Strategies
- Intentional teacher, principal, and district-level focus
- Reading instruction includes implementing phonics instruction using the Fundations and Benchmark Advance/Adelante to create a comprehensive, structured literacy program for students in grades TK-2.
- Administer a Kinder universal screening, K-2 Benchmark digital Oral Reading Records (dORR). iReady Diagnostic Reading Assessment K-8, to determine student strengths and areas for instructional growth and tiers of intervention.
- Implement adopted California standards-aligned reading instructional materials.
- Monitor, calibrate, and analyze the progress of students through district wide principal meetings, guided classroom observations, and i-Ready Diagnostic Reading Assessment data conversations with facilitators.
- Provide comprehensive and dynamic professional learning opportunities for all educators.
