• Community Advisory Committee (CAC) members are selected to the CAC by school districts to assist other parents in the IEP process and empower families to work within the system with their Local Education Agencies (LEA). CAC members are volunteers who are committed to improving communication between parents/caregivers and districts, to making the system work effectively and efficiently, and to being a source of information, support and consultation for parents/caregivers of children with special needs.

The purpose of the CAC is to educate parents/caregivers regarding the practices and procedures in special education and to provide ongoing community support. The CAC strives to provide trainings which includes the development of communication skills, basic understanding of federal and state special education law, and opportunities to develop resources and will support and assist families of children with IEPs. The group also serves in an advisory capacity to the SELPA regarding the Local Plan and other parent/caregiver training opportunities.

The meeting dates for the year will be published in advance to allow parents/caregivers to plan. Meetings will be held at the South East SELPA Office located at 3434 Marten Avenue, Portable 2 - San Jose, CA.

Meetings will be held no less than three times per year and are open to interested parties. One of the scheduled meetings will be dedicated to planning and coordinating future CAC activities based on the consensus of the district appointed representatives.
